Music Video

  • Since cinema was first invented  it has created the ability to bring music to life through visuals.
  • |Over the century the advances of technology has transformed the music video to was it is today

The Early Years

The first music videos came about in the 1920's

Many jazz musicians of the time such as Bessie Smith made short films to accompany popular songs. this was new at the time and was done purely out of artistic purpose rather than for promotion like it is today.


Bob Dylan

In 1965  Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, a segment from D.A. Penebakers Don't Look Back, was widely credited as one of the first modern music videos.


Pop music TV shows

In 1970 the record industry discovered TV shows to be  a great way to promote their artists. They focused on producing short promos for their music videos which began to replace live performances of the artist on the TV shows.

Bohemian Rhapsody (1975)

This Groundbreaking video released by Queen marked the beginning of the video era and set the language for the modern music video. The Video is considered to be one of the first to used advanced video effects.
