What is the Music Industry?
The Music industry refers to any company, business or person who makes money selling or creating music. This applies to both mainstream music and non-mainstream music. The industry is mostly run by organisations such as record label and production companies, so the main objective of the industry is make money from the music they sell and provide to their consumers.
The current music industry evolved around the 20th century as music and artist were becoming more and more commercial. this was an era in which the sheet music was being supplanted by records and artists were soon becoming household names.
The key individuals who are the front runner for the industry are the artist/performer, the lyricist and song writer, the producer and the company who distributes and promotes the music to the consumers. However the industry is large and therefore there are many people do different jobs in order to help produce and promote the final product.
When it comes to music video the most important people are the artist who will usually play some role in the filming process, the music video director and the music video's producer who will usually watch over the whole shoot and make sure that everything is going according to pan and everything is going to schedule.
Music videos are a way of artists promoting their songs to the mass media and some f the biggest songs have gained their fame due to the music video that went along with it such as PSYs 2012 'Gangnam Style'. this shows the real importance of music videos within the music industry and how they help bring more money and attention to an artist or song.
