Our Digipack

Front cover
We chose this as our front cover because we felt it stood out and really encompassed the feel of the album as a whole. The process to making this album cover was fairly simple; we started out by going through the same process we went through during our park shoot except from the fact that we did the painting in our schools art room and we decided to only paint half of my face. After we had finished our photo shoot and got enough pictures to work with. We picked what we believed to be the best photo we had taken and began to edit our photo on pixlr. We had garnered inspiration from Eminem’s album cover for relapse, in which we see a close up of Eminem’s face which is made up from prescription pills. We decided to incorporate this within our own album cover and we decided to have half of our protagonists face made up with pills. This is to show the characters recurrent problem with drugs and how drugs have engulfed his life. Half of our protagonist face is a clown face which bears reference to our own music video in which we see the characters alter ego, the depressed clown, this helps show the protagonists split personality and also the characters conflict. I feel that this matches the tone of the album and the music video as a whole. We also put the album’s title within the bottom corner of our album cover, We did this as it was a similar layout to the original album cover and we felt that we wanted a focus upon the close-up of our protagonist rather than on the album’s title; our album is about the journey of the protagonist and him alone so we felt that our album had to have a pivotal focus upon the protagonist. We also used Eminem’s trademark E  so that the audience could see this and relate the album back to the artist. We had ‘prescribed by Dr Dre’  in the right bottom corner almost as approval stamp by Dr Dre and also to bare reference back to whole prescription pills theme. We finally had a parental advisory stamp in the bottom right corner to make our album as a whole look more professional.

Inside cover
Our inside cover took a while to do as it was the first cover we worked on. First of all we took pictures with an app on the iMac; called  iPhoto booth we took two different pictures with my head turned to side as if I were facing someone, I had to put on different expressions, one of anger  and one of sorrow. We then put both pictures on to pixlr, pasted them together and added an effect to them. We did this to connote the conflict that rises within the protagonist and how this conflict is reflective within the album as a whole. On the inside cover we see the two sides of the protagonist come to a head and we felt that this was very effective as it really highlights the characters bipolar disorder and also the characters S.P.D  and this creates tension within the protagonist. We also used the contrast of light and dark to emphasis this point. A lot of this inspiration comes from the title movie poster of ‘The Hangover Part 3’ in which we see two title characters within the film face to face. This created a sense of conflict and makes it seem like everything is coming to a head, a finale. We wanted to replicate this feeling into our own project.

Inside cover part 2
Another part of the inside cover was the use of a pool of prescription pills this is to show what is inside our character and also to show our characters problem with drugs and how this continues to affect him. Some of the inspiration came from the film Lord Of War, in which we see a pool of bullets leading to the films protagonist, to show that he is almost made up of bullets, like the bullets are a [part of him and we wanted to do the same thing but with pills.

Back cover
We shot this in the common room of our sixth form. We then edited it on a mobile app called instaeditor and ps express. We blurred out the background and drew a heavy focus on the protagonist. This was done to connote our protagonist’s isolation, his detachment from society and many ways this reflects his anti-social behaviour within the music video. This is similar to ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’s’ promotional poster. We also did this to draw focus onto the protagonist and to make him stand out much like the albums cover.

Prototype

Eminem's Relapse Album Cover

Examples' Playing In The Shadows Album Cover

My Groups prototype album cover
This is the prototype for or final album cover.
We have taken inspiration from Examples Playing In The Shadows, in which we see the contrast between light and dark. We also took some inspiration from Eminems' relapse album in which we see Eminems' face made up from a collage of prescription pills. We did something similar but with one side of the face.

Our Music video

This is a link to our final cut of our music video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfaGTvZY07A
On Tuesday 26th April we finished our editing. We decide to analyze and evaluate our video and see if it was good enough to use for our final cut. After some intensive analysis, we decided to upload the video onto YouTube and from there onto our blogs and Facebook. We gained back very positive feedback and many people said they enjoyed our project.
I feel that after all the hard work over the past few months we have delivered a video that is almost at a professional standard and I feel pleased with my final product.

Evaluation question 1

Question One: In what way does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media texts?

Real Media Texts

Films-
Unbreakable
Limitless
Silver Linings Playbook
Fight club
The Artist
Trance
The Artist
Music-
Not afraid - Eminem
Coldplay- Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
Beautiful- Eminem
Slim Shady

My advanced A2  media portfolio used, developed and challenged a lot of other real media texts, this came from researching other real media texts that we felt mirrored the conventions we planned to use in our own video.
The research of other mediums occurred during the pre-production stage just after we had chosen our song and after we had scripted our music video. The research was based on other media products which we felt had similar conventions and elements to our own music video. We then came back together as a group and listed down the conventions and elements that we felt would better our own project.
My music video was about a man with bipolar and a slight form of SPD (schizoid personality disorder), he is depressed with his life. He hates his job, he takes pills to combat the depression and he is isolated and this all leads to him trying to commit suicide. The music video is a flashback of the character's life and the build up to his attempted suicide. This is all playing along to the song 'Beautiful' by Eminem. It is a song in which Eminem feels he has hit rock bottom and has lost hope, he feels that he has to be someone who he is no longer, the song is him coming to terms with the fact that he has matured and accepting who he is. Eminem says the song is for anybody who is in dark place and says that they can get out of it.
My research consisted of watching the official music video for the song 'beautiful' performed by the songs artist on YouTube. This came as inspiration and we tried to develop some of the shots within the music video. Namely the shots in which we see groups of people staring at the camera as the chorus is playing to suggest that all people should accept that they are beautiful just the way they are and they should love what God gave them. We developed this idea by having shots of groups of people while they were lip-syncing some of the lyrics within the song. Unfortunately we didn't use this in our music video as we felt itt would take away from the overall tone of the music video
I also looked into some of my old work from last year and checked some of the narrative theories as our music video were narrative based. I felt we developed Todrov's theory of equilibrium, in our own media project instead of starting with equilibrium  our narrative begins with disequilibrium this is brought on due to the protagonists depression, he is at a low point in his life and as the video continues we unravel the protagonists tale and we start to understand why he is attempting suicide by the end our character has found a new equilibrium and that is due to his self acceptance  I felt that narrative also challenge Levi-Strauss theory, although our music video is heavily influenced by the beliefs and values of our culture, we did not incorporate the use of binary opposites. Everything in our character world is grey, there is no black and white in his world and therefore there is no contrast, however there is a slight contrast within the characters two personalities as one is bright and perky the other is dark and menacing.
As well as looking at narrative theory I also looked at, previous theorists work on music video's. I realized that our music video challenged quite a few of the theories. For instance although our main target audience are teenage males we did not adhere to Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory. There are no females represented within our music video as we wanted our character to seem isolated and alone so we centered the whole video on the protagonist and his struggle  we also didn't feel that using women in a heavily sexualised fashion would really fit the tone an lyrics of the song and the video as a whole . I felt that we did use a lot of Andrew Goodwin's theory within our own music video, such as matching the visuals with the lyrics for e.g. the scene in which we show the clowns face and the lyrics say 'I just hide behind the tears of a clown'. However we did not have our artist in the video which is very conventional to Hip-Hop music videos. We felt that this was better as we could focus more on the video's narrative rather than the artist of the video.
In looking at Eminem’s other projects I realized that he also uses surrealism within his own music that comes alive due to the fact that it is contrasted so well with the gritty realism within the song’s lyrics, we tried to incorporate this within our music video through the use of showing what goes on inside the mind of our character and how his illness effects his being. Eminem’s uses this same technique within  in his music videos such as space bound in which we see Eminem as the protagonist who watches his past self deal with a relationship that is going downhill, the split screen in this music video inspired part of our own music video in which we see a split screen of Tyrell's character as he tries to call and get through to the man protagonist and stop him from hurting himself this played alongside one of the earlier shot in the video in which we see the main character walking to his the edge of the bridge, to his death, I felt this was a very effective shot as they both contrasted really well and showed the narrative in real time.
Another Eminem video which uses surrealism is 'Not afraid' we developed the opening shot of the music video in which Eminem is standing upon the edge of a roof in Newmark, New Jersey, we as the audience get a view of the amazing city skyline unfortunately we couldn't replicate the rooftop scene due to legal reasons and also not being able to find one right in the centre of London however we decided to film this scene on a bridge over the A10 motorway. This was as aesthetically pleasing as a rooftop however it did have a higher sense of danger and tension within its mis-enscene and this helped better the music video as a whole. Our music video also challenges this music video as the rooftop scene in Eminem’s music video is one of hope, it symbolizes Eminem rising up beyond his depression and coming out of a low point in his life. However in our music video, our protagonist is standing upon the edge of a bridge and is about to jump off. Our character has allowed depression to engulf him and he has decided to end his life.
The rooftop scene was also inspired by Neil Burger's 2011 film Limitless in which a failed writer finds a pill that allows him to access 100% of his brain. In the opening credits of this film we as the audience see the main protagonist portrayed by Bradley Cooper about jump off the balcony of his pent house apartment, the film then flashes back to the events leading to this. We decided to use this within our own music video as the bridge scene would take place during the intro and outro of the song and then the verses and chorus of the song are all flashbacks of events leading to the characters final choice. Limitless helped us with our narrative structure and we felt that using this structure would grip the audiences intrigue from the outset of the music video as they would be wondering why our character is about to commit suicide and then we would slowly feed our audiences curiosity with the answer.
I also researched music videos from other genres that I felt had conventions which may be applicable to our own music video, this led me to the 2011 music video for 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' by the band Coldplay, it is a performance based music video in which we see the band performing their song with an urban are covered with graffiti. The music video uses stop motion throughout however we decided to replicate the shots in which we see the see the drummer and his drum kit moving from area in the video to another using the technique of jump cuts. We used similar technique within our music video however we had our character walking down a long and winding pathway. We used jump cuts to show our characters gradual progression along the pathway and away from the camera. I felt this gave the character a disorientated feel as if the protagonist life is broken and out of sync. We also did this as we felt it would match the beat of the song and also our video has a lot of the character walking from location to location (much like the original video) almost as if he is on a journey of self discovery and we felt that this would help with the pace of the music video as a whole.
My music video is about a young man with bipolar and SPD as he tries to deal with his illness and the daily routines of life however he becomes overwhelmed and falls into depression.
I felt we gained inspiration from the 2012 David O. Russell film, Silver Linings Playbook in which two main protagonists both have bipolar. The characters are very temperamental and sometimes lash out at the environment around them. I decided to further look int this by looking up documentaries about people with the bipolar illness and i saw that this way of acting was similar throughout the different forms of medium. This is similar to our own protagonist who has two angry outbursts and becomes emotionally distressed due to his illness. The first is when we see our character violently throwing his medication to the floor; the other is when he becomes over stressed at work and throws a pile of papers off of his desk to the ground.
I also drew some inspiration from Edward Norton's portrayal of 'The Narrator' in David Fincher's 1999 film, Fight Club. The narrator is an 'everyman' who is suffering from insomnia, he has tried to fit into society and be the normal man but it doesn't quite satisfy him. Throughout the beginning of the film we see the narrator as depressed and dissatisfied and this was where we drew some inspiration for our protagonist. He also has a split personality disorder and this is slightly similar to our own character that has an alter ego.
Another film that we drew inspiration from was the 2002 Peter Jackson film, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.  The film features a character named Gollum. He was previously a hobbit named Sméagol who was corrupted by a magical ring. His corruption has deformed him and driven him to obsession. In his mental instability he formed a new persona named Gollum. he has gained a habit of shifting between his two personality's, Sméagol and Gollum.
There is a scene in the film in which we see Gollum shifting between his two personalities as they both argue about whether to kill the hobbits they are escorting and steal the ring that one of them carries. The camera operator first uses the 180 degree rule as he pans around Gollum to show him shift from Sméagol to Gollum. the camera operator then cuts to just using jump cuts in order to show that Sméagol and Gollum are no longer the same person but are two separate entities. This really highlights the characters' mental illness. We decided to develop this by cutting out the use of the 180 degree rule and instead just use the jump cutting between our character's two personalities while he sits upon a park bench. The use of dual personalities is something replicated within our artist Eminem who has two personalities, one being Marshall Mather’s is Eminem and who he really is, the other being slim shady is own creation from a figment of his imagination who is no holds bars. The album from which our song comes from is about Eminem relapsing and returning to his old ways of slim shady, much like our character reverting to his depressing and menacing personality.
The art direction for our music video was influenced by the 2000 M. Night Shymalan film Unbreakable. The film is a about a man who finds that he has super powers after he survives a train crash. There is a scene in the film in which the films protagonist walks into a train station the colours are all bland and grey apart from significant characters who having committed some sort of evil act, these characters where bright colours which stand out, such as yellow or orange. We decide to develop this by taking the colour out of the video during the editing process, only certain colours standout such as blue and red to connote the characters emotions at the time, such as red for anger or blue for depression. I felt this was effective as it really helped set the tone for the video and gave our video a more professional look overall.
In one of our final scenes within our music video we use a technique called fast cutting in which we see brief images flash before the screen of events that have previously occurred in our video. This use of editing reflects our character as he looks back at all the depression in his life and finally decides to commit suicide. We developed this idea from the 2004 film Saw by James Wan and also the 2013 film Trance by Danny Boyle in both films this fast cutting technique is used as the protagonist of the film comes to a realization  The clips start off slow but they gradually increase as the long to build up the tension within the scene as we come closer to the final realization however within our own music video the clips start at the same pace and don't go any faster as we did not want to create tension but rather create something like the characters life flashing before his eyes.

Finally at the end of our music video the video goes from being bleached of color to going back in color  we did this to show that our character has finally reached an acceptance of his own self. We developed a similar technique that was used in a 2011 Michel Hazanavicuss film 'The Artist' about a silent film star who becomes irrelevant when films with sound become popular. The film is a silent film and the protagonist does not talk throughout not until the end of the film when the protagonist finds his place in the new film industry. We do a similar thing but instead of using sound as a way of connoting change, we use color  I felt this was very effective as it showed the characters emotion throughout the video.

Editing our Music Video

Editing Location: Apple Mac Room in our school's sixth form
Dates-

Day one of editing: Thursday, 21/03/13
Day two of the editing: Monday, 25/03/13
Day three of the editing: Tuesday, 29/03/13
Day four of the editing: Wednesday, 30/03/13

Editors: Myself (Leyon), Shayne, Michael and Tyrell

Day one: On this day we began editing. we had planned to edit earlier but were held back due to trouble uploading the videos onto the mac. we finally achieved this a began the arduous journey of trimming the clips down and getting rid of any unnecessary clips which we felt didn't fit the the tempo of the music video or just weren't the shots we were looking for. this was made easier as we all had previous experience of using the  the imovie editing software from our thrillers  which we produced last year never the less getting back into the swing of things took a while. We totaled up the length of all the clip we had uploaded and it came to around 8.4 minutes this was double the time of our intended music video length. This meant a majority of the time was taken up cropping down clips and getting rid of unnecessary clips. we also encountered another problem unfortunately when filming we did not realize that the video had a time recording on it meaning when we uploaded the videos the all had the date and time of the shoot on them, however we are trying to combat this by seeing if we can blur it out or creatively use it to our advantage.

Day Two: We applied music to our video in order to help us with the timing of the clips and when the different beats kicked in. We began using jump cuts in order to help keep up the tempo of the music video and also to show that the character has a very disjointed lifestyle.
We did this by taking a clip cutting and trimming it into smaller parts and then paste those clips back together. another problem we encountered was that all though we had a sufficient amount of clips they were all specific to a certain part of the song ie the first verse and the chorus and that meant further filming had to be done.

Day Three: We found out that some of our clips did not match the timing or lyrics that were running at the same time and according to Andrew Goodwin's theory the music video must match the lyrics. therefore we had to cut out a few shots that we had planned t have due to their lack of neccesity to the overall music video. we also had to trim a lot of clips in order to keep up with the tempo of the song however i felt that we did a sufficient amount of work this day.

Day Four: On this day we incorporated the use of split screen and an video within a video in order see if it helped move along the music video

Day Five: On this day we incorporated our fast cut editing and tidy up the rest of our video after gaining audience feedback this was all very useful to out videos final cut.

Sixth Day of Filming

Date: 14/03/13
Location: Durants Park
Crew
Me: Actor
Michael: Director
Shayne: Make-Up Artist

The scene we filmed in Durant’s Park follows the protagonist as he sits on a bench in the park all by himself. The scene is done to point out the characters mental state as we see him talk to himself upon the bench. The protagonist becomes two different characters to show his positive and negative side.
We used the 180 degree rule to our advantage and filmed the shot of from two different angles to make it seem as if it were two separate characters speaking to one another. The first shot we took was of the protagonist as happy and smiling protagonist he laughs and jokes with his other side, our second shot being the sad and depressed protagonist he wears clown make up upon his face and barely givens any recognition to his other side.
This reflects the characters mental instability as he is talking to himself. This is common symptoms of bipolar disorder, Multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia and helps us as the audience to see what is going on inside the protagonists mind.
The audience would be able to see this was in the characters head as we had use realism throughout the entire video and introduced this surrealist scene in which we see our character talking to himself with clown make-up on and i felt that this scene worked effectively contrasted with the other scenes.
The idea was heavily inspired by the Character of Gollum from Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)'. The character is a hobbit who has slowly become a monster as his greed and corruption for the ring turn him from the mild mannered fisherman named Smeagol to the hunched back creature he becomes named Gollum. Throughout the film we see the conflict between his two personalities and we tried to replicate this within our own music video. In this particular scene the 180 degree rule is used as the camera pans around Gollum and he begins to shift between his two personalities, the scene then goes to jump cuts as we see Gollum speak to Smeagol as if they were two separate entities. We decided to use the jump cuts idea as we felt if filmed better than using the 180 degree rule.
This is a photo of me as the protagonist the face mask  was painted by Shayne and Michael in order to look like a clown. We used red, white and  black poster paint as it would begin crack as it dries and create a evil  clown look. The only problem we had was making sure we painted fast enough as the paint dries into a mask quickly and meant that if I moved my face an inch the paint would begin to crack and split however i feel we did a good job as it gives a very scary clown appearance and shows the characters depression. We had heavy inspiration from the Dark Knights (2008) Joker.

This was the clip which heavily influenced my performance as the protagonist and inspired the scene.

I felt that overall the day went well we got a lot filmed and the make up was done to perfection. I felt that it would have been better if we had spent more time on analysing the storyboard and thinking about all the different shots we would need in order to make editing more efficient.

Fifth day of filming

Date: 20/02/13
Location: Tottenham cemetery and Great Cambridge roundabout
Schedule: Re-film exterior shots, Rooftop scene and cemetery scene

Crew:
 Me: Actor/ 2nd Assistant Director
Michael: Director
Shayne: 1st Assistant Director
Tyrell: Camera Operator/ 3rd Assistant Director

Redo Cemetery Scene

On this day we re-filmed our third day of filming. We initially started the day by heading to our original location for the rooftop scene. However we were unable to film due to some legal complications, this added further stress as wood green had been our backup filming location and other than that we had no idea where else to film our rooftop scene so we decided to film the cemetery scenes while we looked for another location to film. When we arrived at the cemetery we set up our equipment and looked over our storyboard to see if there was anything we could do to enhance the viewing experience and add a depth to the story. We decided to play around with a few of the shots by taking them from different camera angles and trying to film them in other locations of the Tottenham Cemetery in order to see what looked the best visually. I felt that this really helped us as we got a lot of good shots at the end of the filming shoot and I felt that I improvised and came up with a quite a few shot ideas such as the use of jump cuts while I walk down a long footpath, this was to show the characters journey and also to match with the lyrics 'Here today, gone tomorrow but ain't got to walk no thousand miles'. Another shot that we come up with that day that I felt was very effective was a wide shot of the protagonist as he crouched in front of a grave stone that was in the shape of an angel. This showed that our character was close to death and also showed that the character may have dealt with loss and this may be the cause of the characters depression. the filming went well and the only problem we encountered were people walking through the cemetery meaning we had to stop filming so they could pass by but apart from that we didn't receive a single complaint.

After we had finished filming the entire cemetery scene, Michael suggested that we film the rooftop scene on a underpass below Great Cambridge roundabout. We thought this would be a perfect location as it was right over the A10 motorway and so it meant the POV shot would be very menacing as the protagonist looked at a large fall into speeding traffic. It was also a public area meaning there would be no legal problems with us filming in the area.

I felt the filming in the location went very well. We filmed both the introduction and conclusion to our Music Video as they both took place in the same place and at the same time. We also had to come up with a couple new shot ideas as we were filming in a different location and a lot of the new shots I believe helped better the music video as a whole. I and Tyrell were both acting in most of the shots and I felt we both did a great job we both improvised really well and also had a lot of input into the different shot ideas that were used.

Fourth day of filming

Date: 18/02/13
Location: Shayne's house
Schedule:Re-filming Interior scenes

Crew:
Me: Actor
Michael: Director
Shayne: Assistant Director
Tyrell: Camera Operator

The main objective of the day was to re-film all of the interior scenes as I had misplaced the memory card and lost all of our previous footage we had filmed. In a way this worked to our advantage as it meant that we could perfect all that we had filmed before knowing what went well and what didn't work well. It also enabled us to add any fresh content that we believed would help enrich the video and improve it overall. So as a group we decided that it was best to re film all of the interior scenes.
We decided to film during the half term as it would give us more time to really perfect all of our filming and also to cover all of the interior scenes and looking back that really did help us having an entire day to film with no distractions to take our focus off of the project.
We began by filming the interior scenes which occur early on in the music video. We started by setting  up the equipment and analysing our storyboard to see how we would plan out the day and if there was anything we could  add  to the video to enhance the viewing experience.
One of the shots we came up with on the day was a shot of spilled tablets upon the protagonists bathroom floor as we see his feet walk past. This would take place after the protagonist had picked up a bottle of pills and threw them to the ground.
This shot cold connote two possible ideas depending on the viewer’s perspective. One; that the protagonist is on medication and is deciding to reject the help that is being handed to him almost as a sign of rebellion against people telling him what he should do. Two; the protagonist is addicted to pills (much like Eminem was when writing the song ) and by throwing it to the ground he is trying to break the viscous circle, from research I did find that drugs are one of the main causes of suicide a problem that is directly facing our protagonist.
During the day we took two or three breaks to charge the camera and get some food but apart from that we worked solidly throughout the day. It would've been more helpful to have more professional equipment for some of the overhead shots and for some of the lighting but overall that was our most productive and efficient day of filming.

Inspirations for our music video 2

We decided to use some of the opening shots within Eminem's music video 'Not Afraid', particularly the roof scene shots and try and put our own creative spin on them. I felt we gained inspiration from the video but didn't completely try and replicate the rooftop scene.

From this video we tried to recreate the characters anti-social behaviors, the characters obliviousness to those around him and felt that we did a pretty good job on that side of things.

We wanted to use the scene in this video in which we see the protagonist sat upon a sofa he sits still in normal time however all others are sped up around him. We unfortunately could not do this as we could not get any back ground crowds before the deadline.

We also wanted to use color heavily within our music video and were inspired by this games contrast of color and the way it is uses color to signify the character in or the character's emotion. We tried to use this template and go forward with our art direction.

Costume

We chose the red tie as it connotes the hidden anger and passion within the protagonist and it is a colour that is really clear and apparent.
A tattered pair of black trainers to represent how broken and tattered our main protagonist is. he chooses these shoes out a row of new shoes that he has at home, signifying that he chooses the life he leads.
The clothes are smart to show the facade he puts up to the world, our protagonist pretends to be an successful and intelligent business man but on the inside he is depressed and broken. we made sure the clothes were grey as we wanted them to fit the tone of the video and also to make brighter colors pop out and become more noticeable. such as the red tie.

My Team Roles

My Team

  • Leyon Stolz-Hunter
  • Michael Phillips
  • Tyrell Chetty-Wilson
  • Shayne Thomas-Gordon

As my team consisted of four people it meant that we had to work as individuals to keep the project running and also as a team, this means that although we each had our set roles, we also had to take on other roles in order to get everything done and also to keep the ideas fresh.  we did this through communication within school and outside of school so that we are constantly working on the project and also being on hand to help out each other when help is required.

I feel that as a team we will be able to work around any difficulties we may encounter and also to balance the project with our other A-level subjects.

Job roles of my team and I

Leyon Stolz-Hunter(actor,co script writer): My main role on the team was to play the role of the main protagonist, we decide this as a team based on the fact that I had plenty of acting experience and was also the taking my second year of performing arts. as an actor I had to follow the script but alot of improvisation was required as I had to take drawings on a paper and turn them to actions in real life, I felt that I was more than adequate for this role because of my experience. I also took on the role of co script writer , my job was to help formulate the narrative of our music video and also to give it some padding so it seemed to have a sense of realism within it. I feel that I had a heavy role within the narrative of the music video and contributed many of the ideas .

Michael Phillips(script writer, director): Michael's main role was as director, this was due to Michaels experience as director last year with our AS project. Michael also helped to aid our project by donating his camera for us to use for filming. In addition he also had a massive contribution to the music videos script  by advising us on what direction to go with our music video and also provided many of the ideas.

Tyrell Chetty-Wilson(actor, main camera operator): Tyrell's role is very similar to mine by means of him also being an actor. He would play the role of the protagonists friend, his character was pivotal to the videos conclusion. We chose Tyrell as he also had a lot of  acting experience and was in his first year of performing arts therefore he would be perfect for the role. He also played the role of camera operator therefore had to work on the camera and make sure we got the perfect shots.

Shayne Thomas-Gordon(script writer,co director): Shayne's main role was as script writer and storyboard sketcher as he take A level art and would best fit this role. he also had a large contribution to the idea and his input was in valuable. Shayne also had the role of co director as he had previous experience behind the camera and also due to his large input in script writing knew what he wanted.

Relapse: The Album

Relapse is Eminem's sixth studio album and it was released on May 15th 2009, It came out after a four year hiatus in which the rapper had drug addiction problems and writers block. The album was produced by Eminem , Dr Dre and Mark Batson. The album came soon after Eminem's drug rehabilitation, his second divorce with Kimberly Scott and the death of his close friend DeShaun 'Proof' Holton.
The album sort of follows a narrative, which talks about his drug rehabilitation, him rapping after his non-fictional relapse and the return of Slim Shady. The album starts off with a skit in which we see untrustworthy drug counselor forces Eminem back into his drug addiction and the return to his slim shady character. The album then goes to Eminem explaining the reasons behind his drug problem, the album the goes onto slag off other celebrities who have had rehab problems and also talks about controversial topics. In the skit 'Mr Mathers' we see Eminem being recovered to a hospital where he looks back at the time during his drug problem and his dependency upon the sleeping pills. Eminem then brings in the song beautiful in which Eminem gets rid of the slim shady persona and talks about there being hope when you are in a dark place.
The album had positive critical response and it went to number 1 in nine different countries however many said that this was not quite the return of form that people were expecting. the album overall still did really well within the charts.
